Donate blood with the rector
Support a good cause and donate blood with the university
The 12th annual Donate Blood with the Rector challenge will take place from 13 to 17 February at the Transfusion Department of the Olomouc University Hospital. Regular donors from among the students and employees of the university are welcome, but especially first-time blood or blood plasma donors. Just register by 7 February at daruj@upol.cz. "Together with potential donors, we will select a suitable date for them and answer any questions they may have. All donors registered in this way can then also look forward to a small gift from the university and the university hospital," added Ondřej Martínek, coordinator of the event. The event is traditionally part of the UP Academic Week, when the university commemorates its re-establishment in 1946.
The appeal will be launched on Monday, 13 February at 7:45 a.m. at the Transfusion Department of the Olomouc University Hospital with the participation of Rector Martin Procházka, Vice-Rector Vít Procházka and the President of the Czech Red Cross Marek Jukl. At the same time, the long-term competition "Roll up your sleeve" will be symbolically launched. The aim of the competition is to encourage inter-faculty competition in the total amount of blood donated.
In 2021, the Olomouc University Hospital registered 1,000 "university" blood donations, which was almost 70 more than in 2020. Since 2014, when we count donations of UP students and staff, there have been 5,533 donations in total, which corresponds to a volume of more than 2,700 litres of blood and blood plasma.
The Donate Blood with the Rector event is organised by Palacký University in Olomouc in cooperation with the Olomouc University Hospital, the hospital's Transfusion Department and the 470 ml initiative.
